Generic but kind of fun.Aug 30, 2010 I'm sure the first question I'll get from anyone who knows me is, "Why did you rent this?"
Um.....
Well.....
Honestly?
I was bored.
I'll make it short.
It's a Disney/action movie so a few things can be expected.
We have the two annoying kids who can't act? Check.
Dwane Johnson (Aka "The Rock") body slamming, pile driving, and cloths lining multiple aliens? Check, check, check.
Shameless self promotion of Disney's own Myley Cyrus via soundtrack. Check.
Now that that's out of the way...
The good?
Competent acting from Dwane Johnson.
Decent FX.
Story was passable.
That's about it.
The bad?
The kids can't act worth a "you know what".
Everything was pretty much, "been there, done that, done better".
I'll wrap it up like this...
It's a fun little movie but if you've seen any cheesy made for tv movie than you've seen this one.
It's pretty much paint my numbers.
Not innovating or groundbreaking I'll probably find myself watching it while cleaning the house just for some background noise.
It's pretty bad when the former wrestler is your best actor but really...he is.
Meh, if your kids want to see it I recommend a rental.
It's fun, harmless and utterly brainless.
Not really recommended for adults though.
what was walt disney thinking ?Aug 29, 2010 I loved the film, and the stars were great..BUT..this is a little much for a disney film..way too much violence..but concidering Dwayne Johnson in it and thats his only way of acting.I sould have seen it coming.this was like watching X-Files,I loved the first two movies, but this one rates up thier with the Terminator.in my opinion this story could have told a hole lot better..this movie should be rated PG-14 for extreme violence.all in all the movie was very excieting up to the end.I recommed that parents with small children use strong caution before letting them watch this film...
AliensAug 19, 2010
I did not really know anything about this movie until I saw it. It is a children's movie, but having the Rock in it, makes it better for adults. There is some great car chases, fights and adventure. It's a nice story for the whole family.
A good fun filled-family movie - 3.5 ratingAug 18, 2010 Race to Witch Mountain is a good fun filled-family movie which features the Rock (his old wrestling name), Bruno who takes two aliens (who have morphed into children) to a lonely place in the desert and receives a lot of money for his troubles - a great tip! Bruno, the dejected, but physically strong taxi driver has a conscious kicks and goes to investigate after he hears loud bangs inside the rickety old house and saves then teens from the rebel army alien!
The FBI are aware of the crashed space craft (from which the 2 teens arrived) and have it locked up and for the aliens to save their planet and for earth not to be invaded they must get home quick with the answer to the problem of their universes. Lots of crashed, special effects and a real beat up taxi! Alongside the alien convention in Las Vegas (where the film is set) and an alien baddy sent by the rebel alien army!
Race to Witch Mountain is the location where the spacecraft is held and so they must break i and steal back their craft!
A good fun filled-family movie - 3.5 rating
Disney Makes An Exciting, Non-Stop Race Back to Witch Mountain!Jul 16, 2010 Dwayne Johnson stars as Jack Bruno, a goodhearted, ex-con cab driver living in Las Vegas and still harassed by remnants of his criminal past. Jack's world is suddenly turned upside down one day when he picks up two young teens (Alexander Ludwig and the ever increasingly lovely AnnaSophia Robb) desperately trying to get to a location seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Jack soon discovers the pair are aliens in a race against time and the government to try to save our world and their own. They eventually enlist the help of a U.F.O. researcher named Dr. Alex Friedman (the beautiful and underappreciated Carla Gugino) and other scientific rejects, but even with all their resources and the kids' special powers, things don't look good for our heroes once they reach Witch Mountain, now a military base for U.F.O. research!
Disney's recent sci-fi action flick, "Race to Witch Mountain", is exactly what you should expect from the title and stars. This is a true cinematic race, with lots of effects and explosions and all that good stuff. It's a fugitives on the run sort of film with plenty of cool sci-fi stuff throughout (including a convention, ha). There is even the usual alien bounty hunter type character hot on their tails. However, though the film never slows down much in its steady serving of road trip action and danger, it also serves up great acting (yes, even The Rock has greatly improved) and cast chemistry, and a really fun though simple plot. It's also studded with great references to Disney's original two Witch Mountain films and even a delightful reference to "The Journey of Natty Gann". The only complaint I can even think of for this movie is that I'm not sure what it is. I mean, is it a remake? Is it a sequel? Is it one of those weird sequel/reboot combos like the latest Star Trek movie? Even after watching the bonus features, that's never quite clear, and I wish it was. I don't think I'd call it a remake. It has similar themes to the original 1975 film and the book it was based on, but it's a far cry from that story, even with different names for the kids. So, is it a sequel? Possibly. It could be a disguised sequel; one that doesn't want to openly declare that it is a sequel. After all, the original Witch Mountain kids do make a cameo appearance and have the same first names. BUT, they still don't make it certain that they are playing the same Tia and Tony. In fact, when you watch the deleted scenes, it seems more likely that they aren't. But deleted scenes don't really count, and there are other things, some of the tributes to the original film, that make it seem like it could be a continuation of that storyline (or at least in the same timeline). It just drives me nuts that this is left unclear by the filmmakers. I actually hope it is an undeclared sequel. I would prefer it to be a sequel rather than a remake that is sooo far from the source material that it might as well not have the remake stigma. And if it is a sequel, it can join the ranks of "Herbie Fully Loaded" and "TRON Legacy" rather than stuff like Tim Allen's "Shaggy Dog" or Lohan's "Freaky Friday", oy. The list goes on. Anyway, one thing it definitely is, is a great popcorn flick! If you go into it with the intention of just having fun with a neat sci-fi action flick, you shouldn't be disappointed, especially if you are a Disney fan and can have fun with the references. Great stuff!
The Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack is great for having the most viewing options. Frankly, I have no use for digital copies, and there's gotta be a better way to do those without requiring a disc (not very green). However, I can appreciate the inclusion of a DVD copy when I don't have to pay a higher price to get it, which I didn't when this came out, but that's starting to change I believe. Too bad. I will have to start opting for the Blu-Ray only. Anyway, the film looks and sounds great, of course, but a huge disappointment is the lack of bonus features. Oh, there are a few, and they are good, but not nearly enough of them. I mean, no commentary? Are you serious? No trailer? There are bloopers and deleted scenes with intros, and those are great, and there's a nice featurette in which the director points out the references and cameos and such, but that's pretty much it, and that's pretty weak for a new Blu-Ray release. What a shame they didn't include the short film parody "The Blair Witch Mountain Project" at the very least. Still, I really enjoyed the film and I do recommend it for those who can be satisfied with just a great sci-fi action flick. Not everything has to be "Citizen Kane".
